At the moment we at St. Beghs school are involved in a school partnerships project. It is called Comenius. This partnership allows us to work on a joint school project with schools in different countries within Europe. They include Germany, Poland, Sweden and Finland.
The aim of the project is for pupils, teachers and parents from each school to learn about their own local areas and about the home towns of each partner school. The title of the project is 'Industrial past, heritage and change'. When we complete our project work we will send our results to our partner schools. Luckily for us the chosen language for all communication is English! This year the focus is to study the contemporary industry, looking at jobs and transport systems.
As well as this each class has their own pen friend. Pupils in Years 3 & 4 are writing to children in Finland, Year 5 have pen friends in Poland, Year 5/6 mixed class in Germany and Year 6 pupils have pen friends in Sweden.

Germany, Sweden, Poland, Finland. (Not all have websites yet - watch this space!)
In September 2005 Mrs Wrigley and Miss Savage visited our partner school in Sweden. Here is a photo from that visit. These Swedish children have just performed a play. They even managed to sing a song in English just for us!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has helped us with this project so far. Thanks to these helpers (parents, grandparents, other relatives and school visitors) we have been able to undertake lots of local area fieldwork studies and have listened to several interesting guest speakers - not least our local MP, Mr Jamie Reed!
